Pakistan Open Golf prize money
enhances to US$300,000

KARACHI: An enhanced purse
of US$300,000 will be at offer in the NBP Pakistan Open Golf Championship
scheduled to be held at Karachi Golf Club from January 18 to 21, Secretary,
Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) Taimur Hassan said here Monday.
“Last year there was US$200,000 prize money at stake which has been
increased by 100,000 to make it more attractive for top golfers”, he said.
He said besides 100 golfers from various continents of the world, around 30
Pakistan players will be in the fray.
He said last year’s champion Chris Rodgers from England has confirmed his
participation. “Because of raise in the prize money more top golfers been
attracted to Pakistan’s mega event,” he said.
He said National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) are the main title sponsors of this
competition but declined to disclose the amount of sponsorship money.
Pakistan’s top professional Muhammad Munir secured fourth spot in the
championship last year.
PGF Secretary said five Pakistanis will be included in the draw from Asian
tour while ten have been excluded to appear in the two day trials to get
entry in Pakistan open.
He said top 15 Pakistan golfers from the trials to be conducted on January
12 and 13 will earn the right to play in Pakistan Open.
Taimur Hassan said course, fairways and greens of KGC are in a picturesque
shape to hold Pakistan Open. He said the staff at KG are working hard since
last three month to make it a memorable spot for the championship.●
