Mobilink to invest another $ 500Mln in Pakistan
Pakistan Times National News Desk

ISLAMABAD: Zouhair A. Khaliq, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mobilink has said that the company has planned to make investment worth US $ 500 million next year in order to improve its network.

Being the pioneer GSM cellular company in Pakistan, Mobilink has already invested US $ 750 million, having more than 21 million customers across the country.

He said this while addressing a joint press conference in a MoU signing ceremony between Mobilink and “The Citizens Foundation” (TCF). Lieutenant General (R) S.P. Shahid represented TCF as its Chief Executive Officer while Khaliq was present on behalf of Mobilink.

He said that education in Pakistan at all level requires support especially in those parts of the country where basic facilities are not available for our children to go to schools.

Mobilink keeping its tradition will continue to contribute its share to strengthen the TCF’s nationwide education programme in villages and urban slums across Pakistan.

The Orascom Telecom (the principal) has announced a financial commitment of Rs.20 million for the construction of schools in the underdeveloped areas of Lahore and Karachi respectively. He said that this contribution is in addition to Rs. 20 million already contributed to TCF earlier with the similar programme.

Khaliq appreciated the efforts of the TCF in meeting such objectives, Mobilink as part of its extensive CSR programme partnered itself in this endeavour with TCF to contribute towards national cause. He hoped that this gesture would make a difference in this initiative.

The CEO of TCF, Lt. Gen (R) S.P. Shahid while accepting the generosity of Mobilink said, that educational facilities for the less-fortunate in the underdeveloped areas of the country are more or less non-existent. Children don’t have access to schools in villages, towns and cities that can cater to their basic needs.

TCF has moved swiftly to recent years to reach remote places and set-up schools. We are fortunate to have a partner in Mobilink that is well known for its social and philanthropic support, and he hoped that their relationship would continue to grow for the future of the children of Pakistan. Later both the representatives signed the MoU and exchanged documents.●
