Musharraf, Aziz discuss National, International Issues

ISLAMABAD: Various issues
including political situation and law and order in the country, situation in
the region and developments in the Middle East were discussed at a meeting
between the President Pervez Musharraf and the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz
at the PMs House this evening.
The President appreciated the achievements made by the government in the
last seven years, specially the performance of the economy, strengthening of
defence and the improvement of the countrys stature in the world.
The President, emphasised the need to maintain consistency and continuity of
policies in order to build on the progress achieved in the last seven years.
The Prime Minister updated the President on the various initiatives being
taken by the government and said that the continued structural reforms in
every sphere will further improve the overall performance as well as the
quality of governance thereby benefiting the people of Pakistan.
Both the leaders also emphasized the need for peaceful settlement of all
disputes including the issue of Kashmir.
They said that Kashmir is the core issue, solution of which will ensure
sustainable peace in the region. They also called for an equitable solution
of the Palestine issue, to improve the environment in the Middle East.
The meeting was also attending by President PML Ch. Shujaat Hussain,
Secretary General PML Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed and Federal Minister
for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed.
