Fog persists in many areas of Punjab

LAHORE: The local
meteorological office predicted here Monday that extreme fog in the morning
might prevail in provincial capital during next 24 hours as well as cold and
dry weather is likely to continue for more than two weeks.
The extreme fog affected the schedule of train services and domestic and
international flights; however, the situation improved after the sun came
out at around noon today.
Motorway officials decided to close motorway for a span of time until fog is
thick.
According to airport officials, the schedule of nearly three dozen flights
has been affected. According to airport officials, flight operation improved
as the fog cleared off around noontime.
The airport officials said that at the time of heavy fog, the flights were
delayed by 6 to 7 hours and now this delay has been dwindled to one to two
hours.
DIG Motorway Shaukat Hayat presided over a meeting where it was decided that
motorway should be closed for traffic if the fog hampers the sight of things
at a distance of some metres so that any untoward incident could be averted.
Railway officials said that Lahore-bound Shalimar Express, Awam Express and
Khyber Express are three-hour late. Besides, Sindh Express and Night Coach
are 12-hour late.
As per synoptic situation, a trough of low-pressure area lies over Kashmir,
which may cause partly cloudy weather in Rawalpindi, and cold and dry
weather in Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and D.G.Khan
divisions during next 24 hours.
