Snowfall, rains continue on
second day in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Light to
moderate rain was reported in different parts of Pakistan, while the
mountainous areas received snowfall, turning the weather chillier.
The Meteorological Office has forecast rains/thunderstorms for next two to
three days.
The wet spell in Karachi continued on Monday as water accumulated at various
roads of the metropolis including water pools at some key traffic arteries
of the city disrupting the traffic flow. Shahrah-e-Faisal and other main
roads in the city experienced traffic jams due to rainwater accumulation.
A large number of schoolchildren couldn’t reach to their schools due to
rainy morning in Karachi.
Over dozen motorcycle riders injured in mishaps at slippery roads of
Hyderabad during the rainfall. The weather turned chillier in the city after
rainfall with fast blowing winds.
The rain also brought down temperature at Mirpur Khas, Larkana, Dadu and
Badin districts.
The rainfall also continued in Lahore, Sialkot and other districts of
Punjab, which has made the weather chillier. The rainfall has also caused
disruption in traffic flow at key roads of Lahore.
The rainfall in Peshawar and adjoining areas and snowfall in northern areas
brought down the temperature in the region. Peshawar has received 14.2
millimeters rainfall during last two days.
The wet spell has affected Hajj and international flights from Peshawar
while all flights to Islamabad have been cancelled.
Snowfall has been started in Quetta and adjoining areas in Balochistan after
the rainy spell, affecting the power supply system in the area. The gas
pressure was also decreased in Quetta as the weather turned chillier, which
has multiplied people’s problems in the city.
Turbat region in Balochistan was receiving rains for last two days, which
has disrupted communications in the area and the land link of Turbat and
Panjgur was severed with other parts of the country.
Several buses traveling from Karachi to Turbat have been stranded at
Shadikor and Wadekor rivers with hundreds of passengers facing shortage of
food and severe wintry conditions.
The rainfall has damaged some portions of RCD Highway that links Karachi to
Quetta and Karachi to Gawadar Makran Coastal Highway causing traffic
suspension at both roads to Balochistan.
The wet spell and snowfall would continue for two to three days, the met
department officials said.●
