Opposition in Pakistan Boycotts Committee on Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: Combined opposition parties Saturday boycotted a meeting of the parliament’s constitutional committee on Blaochistan headed by the leader of the house in Senate Waseem Sajjad.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Mian Raza Rabbani, Prof. Khurshid Ahmed, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Asfandyar Wali and other leaders said in the parliament house Islamabad that the government was not serious with the opposition and said they would not attend the meeting of the committee.

Amin Fahim announced boycott of the Senate committee meeting, while Mian Raza Rabbani said that the government had earlier assured that the committee would be independent but in practice it was not so.

He said that all opposition parties had forwarded recommendations to the government on Balochistan but the recommendations from the government failed to show seriousness for seeking solution of the problem.

Mehmood Khan Achakzai called for holding a roundtable conference of all democratic forces for seeking solution of the problems faced by the country.●
