Smoking, Cell Phones Use Banned
while Driving in Pakistan Capital

ISLAMABAD: With a
comprehensive plan to reduce traffic mishaps in the Federal Capital,
Islamabad Model Traffic Police has put a ban on smoking and use of mobile
phone during driving.
The ban has come into effect immediately and will remain in force for
unidentified period of time.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Traffic Azam Taimouri
while addressing officers of Islamabad Model Traffic Police here.
He directed personnel of traffic Police to ensure implementation on ban
including use of mobile phone and smoking during driving in vicinity of
Capital.
Besides penalizing measures against the violating vehicles, legal action
would be taken against commuters, found violating these instructions,
irrespective of ones status and without any fear and favor, SSP Traffic
added.
SSP Azam Taimouri while quoting report of police said that various traffic
accident have occurred in precincts of Federal Capital due to usage of
mobile phones during driving.
Islamabad Capital Administration has also banned smoking at public places,
restaurants, hotels, hospitals, bus stops, schools, colleges, offices and
other recreational sties.
The measure has been taken under the provisions of the Prohibition of
Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers Health Ordinance 2002.●
