Pakistan launches new notes of Rs 100, Rs 500 Denomination
Pakistan Times National News Desk

KARACHI: Governor State Bank of Pakistan, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar has launched Rs. 100 and Rs. 500 new design banknotes at a ceremony.

Launch of new banknotes is part of State Bank’s campaign to eliminate counterfeiting of notes in the country and to protect the public from this menace. Initially new Rs 100, Rs 500 notes worth 60 million rupees have been circulated..

Dr. Shamshad Akhtar explained that the State Bank has taken advantage of the latest technology to make these notes virtually impossible to be forged by incorporating the state of the art security features.

These modem security features are not only easy to recognize but almost impossible to be copied by the counterfeiters.

However, she felt it is important for the public to become well versed with these security features so that they can immediately recognize a counterfeit banknote when they come across it.

The Governor disclosed that a heavy investment has been made to make the new banknotes easily recognizable by just feeling the surface on both sides in such a way that even a blind person will be able to virtually ‘see’ the cash.

It is a lengthy and demanding process but the Pakistan Security Printing’s hard work and tedious commitment made it possible to print the new currency that it is near to impossible to copy.

She revealed that the State Bank plans to complete its current design up-grading campaign of banknotes early next year when new design banknotes of remaining denominations of Rs. 50 and Rs. 1000 are expected to be introduced.●
