Noted Pakistani poet Zia-ul-Haq Qasmi passes away

KARACHI: Noted poet and literary figure Zia-ul-Haq Qasmi passed away here on Wednesday due to cardiac arrest.

Mr. Qasmi was born on February 5, 1935 at Amratsar in India and migrated to Karachi along with his family after creation of Pakistan. His father Maulana Baha-u-ddin Qasim was a prominent religious figure of Amratsar.

Laid to Rest

Renowned poet and columnist Zia-ul-Qasmi who passed away in Karachi on Wednesday night due to cardiac arrest has been laid to rest in Guilistan-e-Jauhar graveyard here today.

Prominent books are Rag-e-Zarafat, Zia Pashian, Cher Khanian. He was also the editor of country's first serious comic journal Zarafat. His serious poetry effort Haray Bharay Zakahm was widely acknowledged.

Prominent writer and poet Atta-ul-Haq Qasmi is the brother of Zia-ul-Haq Qasmi. He has left behind, a widow, three sons and four daughters.●
