Five Afghan soldiers killed by Suicide Bombing

KANDAHAR: A suicide car bombing in Afghanistan's southern city of Kandahar , killing five Afghan troops and wounding several, an Arabic TV reported.

A suicide car bomber targeted the Afghan Army convoy in Jori area of Kandahar province killing five Afghan troops and injuring several. Taliban claimed the responsibility of the attack.

Meanwhile, clashes underway between Nato forces and Taliban in Pinjwai area of Kandahar. Taliban were made a claim of destroying three military vehicles of Nato forces.

Governor escapes assassination Attempt


And a report from Jalalabad says that provincial governor escaped an assassination attempt in eastern Afghanistan Saturday but a colleague was killed in the early morning attack involving bombing and gunfire.

The governor of the eastern province of Laghman, Gulab Mangal, told foreign news agency a bomb struck the first vehicle of his convoy in which he had been in the second.

As the occupants disembarked to assess the damage, they came under small arms fire, Mangal said.

"A bomb struck under our front vehicle. Then we had some shots and our friend was hit," he said. "I was in the second vehicle."The dead man was an administration official.●
