ICC cautions Indian board over Azharuddin invitation
'Pakistan Times' Wire Service

JAIPUR: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suggested the Indian board withdraws its invitation to disgraced former captain Mohammad Azharuddin to a function to open its new offices.

Azharuddin was banned for life from the game by the Indian board in 2000 following a match-fixing scandal. He has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) included his name in the list of former captains and officials who have been invited to the Nov. 3 function at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium.

The event is due to be held two days before the Champions Trophy final in Mumbai's Brabourne stadium.

"The ICC has zero tolerance towards corruption and we hope our members adopt the same approach," a spokesman said on Saturday.●
