Musharraf on Peace
By the

BEAMING
an explicit message to the world, President Pervez Musharraf, in his
extensive address to the 61st session of the UN General Assembly has called
for resolution of volatile issues like Kashmir and Palestine, end to racial
and religious discrimination against Muslims and ban on the ‘defamation of
Islam’ to promote peace, justice and harmony in the world.
He also attributed terrorism to the old conflicts and new campaigns of
military intervention and advocated for pursuit of enlightened moderation as
a way forward to deal with the scourge.
As a matter of fact, the world is in turmoil as a result of injustice and
discrimination against the Muslim world, exclusively at the hands of the
mighty powers.
Religious sensitivities of the Muslims are being hurt through attacks on
Islam, one way or the other. Thus, it’s obviously a sheer folly to hope for
peace amidst perpetration of injustice, intimidation and deprivation on the
Muslims.
President Musharraf’s call to the international community for resolution of
the perilous issues like Palestinian as well as an end to the racial and
religious discrimination against Muslims with ban on the ‘defamation of
Islam’ represents the urgent need of the hour for peace in the world.
Therefore, the UN, the US and permanent members of the Security Council are
ought to acknowledge that justice, fair play and end to the discrimination
against the Muslims is key to global peace.
It’s about time that a realization should emerge in the economically
affluent and militarily stronger nations to help create an environment of
mutual tolerance, accommodation, forbearance and compassion to make the
planet Earth a peaceful place for humanity to live and thrive.
Amid this reality, it’s really ironic that Muslim blood is spilling in the
streets of India held-Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan with impunity
without any burden on the conscience of the perpetrators.
Indiscriminate bombings, civilian casualties, torture, human rights abuses,
racial slur and discrimination are only adding to the challenge of
confronting terrorism.
We judiciously believe that the originators of injustice, discrimination and
bloodshed must be mindful of the fact that peace hinges on the resolution of
the conflicts involving the Muslims and elimination of the tendencies of
hurting their religious sensitivities by eschewing the defamation of Islam.
While raying gratitude to the daring and courageous leader of the Islamic
world, Gen. Pervez Musharraf for raising the pragmatic voice of the Muslims
from all-over the world at the podium of peace and tranquility, the UN, we
feel optimistic that every peace-loving nation shall endorse in a
crystal-clear style, the realistic viewpoint of the President of Pakistan to
ensure universal peace by adhering to serious and sincere zest for
interfaith harmony and instant solution of the pending disputes which are
posing perils to peace on the Orb.
It’s, by all perceptions a paramount need of the 21st century for making
sure a tranquil environment for innocent men, women and children who are
being targeted for no fault on their part in any mode or manner.
Such a course, when surfaces would also help counter terrorism in its all
forms and manifestations by opening vistas for affluence for all, with
equilibrium as its hallmark.
Of-course, to achieve this highly significant objective, big power with the
United States, atop, can play vital role, if at all they are sincere to
envisage peace and harmony all-over. We hope, they will do so by instantly
shedding at kinds of discrimination and prejudices.●
