Death anniversary of ex-President Gen Zia Observed in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Late General Zia-ul-Haq was emLate President of Pakistan Gen Zia-ul-Haq who died in an air crash on August-17 in 1988.bodiment of bravery, peace and national spirit. He faced all threats with bold steps and never favoured use of power, was the unanimous voice of the speakers at the 18th death anniversary of Pakistan's late President General Zia-ul-Haq here on Thursday.

Quran Khawani was held at the mausoleum of the late President at Faisal Mosque. Collective prayer was attended among others by Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir and President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan, Minister for Religious Affairs, Muhammad Ijaz-ul-Haq, Minister for Commerce, Humayun Akhtar Khan, Punjab Minister for Law Muhammad Basharat Raja and Raja Javed Ikhlas, Zila Nazim Rawalpindi and other political leaders and parliamentarians.

Ijaz-ul-Haq, while speaking on the occasion, said his father always worked for glory of Islam and added that he will follow the practices of his father.

“He provided right guidance at right time to the army and Muslim Ummah and forged unity among them”, Ijaz said.

He paid rich tributes to the late General for his services rendered to the nation and the country. He said that late Zia-ul-Haq, as President of Pakistan, contributed a lot to the liberation struggle of Kashimiris and his Afghan policy had received applaud from world community.

Ijaz-ul-Haq said the Muslim Ummah was facing serious challenges and unity was a must to meet these challenges.

He said the victory of Hizbullah in Lebanon has removed psychological fear from the minds of Arab people, adding that this victory has given them a new hope and fresh confidence.

Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Attique Ahmad Khan said that India should stop violence in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK).

He urged human rights organizations to raise voice against inhuman acts of Indian forces in IHK.

He paid rich tributes to late Zia-ul-Haq and urged people to play their due role to make Pakistan a developed country on the world map.

Later, Fateha was offered for the departed souls of Bahawalpur incident followed by laying of wreath at the grave of General Zia-ul-Haq.
