Indus peak flood heading towards
Kotri in Pakistan

SUKKUR: Indus flowing in
high flood at Sukkur Barrage though the water in the river was receding at
Guddu and swelling at Kotri Barrage.
According to the flood forecast centre, Indus water level was raising
constantly at Kotri. The water inflow at Kotri was recorded at 2,35,000
cusecs, while water discharge from the barrage was scaled at 2,34,000
cusecs. The river flow might increase by 41,000 cusecs in next 24 hours.
The authorities have tightened monitoring of the protective bunds and
embankments of Katcha areas adjacent to River Indus. Pakistan Army troops
along with local administration helping people in evacuation.
The weak embankments of Madh Bund near Nawabshah being strengthened with
earth and stone filling, while 1,75,000 cubic feet stones were dropped at
the week points of the protective Bund to stop river erosion.
According to DCO Nawabshah, over one dozen school buildings were vacated to
shift the flood victims there in case of any emergency.
Meanwhile water was receding at Sukkur Barrage Thursday morning as the water
inflow at the point was recorded at 5,48,000 cusecs and outflow was 5,09,000
cusecs.
Medium flood expected at Sukkur Barrage during next 24 hours with expected
inflow and outflow 5,45,000 cusec and 4,85, 000 cusecs respectively.
Water discharge from Sukkur Barrage has increased the pressure on Aqil-Agani
bund in Larkana and Dadu Moro bund.
According to irrigation department, stone filling was carried out at Aqil
Agani bund to prevent it from erosion.
Immense water pressure has also been observed at Bhanot bund followed by
strict monitoring of rest of the bunds by the irrigation staff.
Several villages in Katcha area between Sukkur and Moro inundated by the
floodwater discharged from Sukkur Barrage. Local residents have started
shifting to safer places.
Indus water flow decreasing and the river in medium flood at Guddu. The
river water level might be in between 4,80,000 cusecs and 400,000 cusecs
during next 24 hours.
Water inflow at Guddu Barrage was recorded 4,83,000 cusecs and outflow was
4,57,600 cusecs at 6:00 am on Thursday morning.●
