Pakistanis detained at Guantanamo Bay: Sherpao
'Pakistan Times' Federal Bureau Report
ISLAMABAD: A team from the
Interior Ministry has held talks with US authorities in Washington on
consular access to Pakistanis detained at Guantanamo Bay prison, Interior
Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said Thursday.
The discussions were held on Wednesday and Thursday, the Minister said while
talking to reporters at the National Police Academy before chairing a
meeting of the Board of Governors of the institution.
Sherpao said details about the outcome of the Washington talks would be made
public after the return of the team.
Responding to a question about Pakistan-India relations, Sherpao said it is
the interest of both countries and the region to continue the peace process
without any interruption.
He said the Indian side should refrain from making any allegations against
Pakistan over the July blasts at Mumbai. If they had any evidence they
should provide it to Islamabad, he added.
The Minister said the recent unsubstantiated allegations seemed to be an
attempt to cover up failure of the Indian security establishment.
Sherpao said Pakistan is a coalition partner in the war on terror and
condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestation and there was no
Pakistani involvement in the Mumbai incident.●
