Twin car bombs blasts kill 25 in Iraq

BAGHDAD: At least 25 people were killed and 38 others wounded on Monday in two car bombs blasts in a Baghdad area known as a stronghold of Shi'ite militia fighters.

The explosions occurred a day after gunmen stormed through a Sunni area and killed over 40 in a dramatic escalation of sectarian violence in the city.

Police said at least 17 people were killed and 38 wounded in Monday's blasts in east Baghdad, 200 metres apart near a telephone exchange in the Talbiya district.

The district is a bastion of the Mehdi Army militia of radical young cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.●
