Musharraf decrees formation of
CCI; Summons NSC Meeting

ISLAMABAD: President
General Pervez Musharraf has decreed reformation of the Council of Common
Interest (CCI) Thursday under article 153 of the constitution. Prime
minister will be the chairman of the council.
A cabinet division notification says that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz will
chair the council and chief ministers of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and NWFP,
Inter-provincial Co-ordination Minister Salim Saifullah, Federal Ministers
for Narcotics Control Ghous Bux Mahar and Federal Minister for States &
Frontier Affairs Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind will be other members of the
council.
The CCI takes all decisions unanimously however in case of disagreement by
federal or a provincial government over a decision the matter would be
discussed in a joint session of the parliament.
The parliament’s decision on the matter will be final and unchallengeable.
Summons NSC Meeting
Meanwhile, another report says that the President has summoned National
Security Council (NSC) meeting on July 15 to review current law and order
situation in tribal areas.
The Prime Minister, the Chief Ministers of all the four provinces, speaker
National assembly, Chairman Senate, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff
Committee, heads of three armed forces and Vice Chief of Army Staff would
attend the meeting.
The NSC members have been formally asked to attend the meeting to debate on
prevailing situation in the tribal areas.●
