WASHINGTON (US): The 20th
annual 'Pakistan Day Festival' will be held at Montgomery Fairgrounds,
Maryland, on August 27.
Announcing the plans, its organizer told newsmen that as in previous years,
the day would start with the ceremony of flag-hoisting and singing of
Pakistan's national anthem, and reading out of proclamations and messages
specially issued for the occasion.
A number of noted artistes and singers from Pakistan will entertain the
audience, Mr. Zahid Hameedi said.
This year, a Russian folk dance troupe will also be invited to entertain the
Pakistan day participants.
He said the objective behind holding of annual festivals was to impart
knowledge of rich Pakistani culture in the minds of youth, and take interest
in our traditional heritage, which is worth emulation.
On the day, the sprawling Gaiterberg Fairground presents a look of Pakistani
folk 'mela,' with visitors finding a corner of their interest- eatables,
constumes, handicrafts, and music concert, and families around to meet and
spend happy moments. For kids, there will be races and pony rides.
Like previous years, the governors of Virginia and Maryland are expected to
issue Pakistan day proclamations expressing their good wishes and sentiments
of affection for the enterprising Pakistani American community.●
