'Major heroin lab' busted in Pakistan

QUETTA: Pakistani authorities say they have destroyed a major heroin-producing facility near the Afghan border, BBC reports.

The raid in Balochistan province was described as the country's biggest anti-drugs operation in recent times.

Eight mobile heroin factories and two tonnes of morphine were seized, Pakistan's Anti-Narcotics Force said.

The sites were less than a kilometre from the border with the southern Afghan province of Helmand - the country's main opium-producing area.

A spokesman for the anti-narcotics force said the manufacturing of heroin was being transferred across the border following a recent anti-drugs campaign in Afghanistan.

He said all those working in the heroin factories had managed to flee.●
