Fifteen injured in Turkish Blast

ANKARA: Fifteen people were injured on Saturday in a criminal explosion outside a shop in Mersin, southern Turkey, local officials said.

"We condemn this repulsive act... those who committed it will be arrested and brought to justice as quickly as possible," Provincial Governor Huseyin Aksoy told the Anatolia news agency.

The governor did not make any reference to terrorism. Only one of the fifteen victims had to be hospitalised after the explosion, which came from a refrigerator used to stock ice cream, Aksoy said.

According to security sources quoted by Anatolia, the fridge was blown up by a grenade remotely detonated via a mobile phone. Earlier, local police had put the total number of wounded at eight.●
