FAISALABAD: The number of patients of water- borne diseases, which broke out as a result of supply of contaminated water in eastern Pakistan's Faisalabad, has reached over 28,000.

This number of patients has already reached an alarming level and seems to further increase as more affectees were being hospitalized in Faisalabad, one of Pakistan's major industrial cities, the report said.

Authorities have taken serious notice of the problem, and the work for replacing the old water pipeline in the affected area is also underway on emergency basis, it said.

Water contamination and water-borne diseases have claimed several lives and left several thousand people hospitalized in eastern Pakistan's Punjab province since early May, according to earlier reports.
