3.8m disbursed for Pakistan's medal winners in C’wealth Game

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) distributed 3.8 million rupees amongst the medals winners of the 18th Commonwealth Games 2006 on Monday here at Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad.

Chairman PST Lt. General (Retd.) Arif Hasan was chief guest at the cash award ceremony. He is also president of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) announced to supports federation in the shape of equipment and coaching facilities to enhance the standard of the sports at grass root level.

Acting Director General of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Javed Akhter and member governing body of PST, Secretary Education Sajid Hussain and other officials of PST and PSB were also present on the occasion.

Weightlifter, Sujahuddin Malik gold medallist of 18th Commonwealth games, received the cheaque of 8 lac rupees, while Muhammad Irfan Islam got cheaque of 2lac rupees, as he (Irfan) had won the bronze medal in his 69 kilogram weight-category.

However, weightlifting coach Naveed Aslam Malik also collected the cheaque of 2 lac rupees. Muhammad Iklaq Usmai on the behalf of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) received the cheaque of 16 lac rupees for the national hockey team who had clinched silver medal. Boxer Meharullah and shooter Muhammad Irshad also collected the cheaque of 4lac rupees both had won silver medal.

Lt. General (Retd) Syed Arif Hasan said on the occasion that PST would help players and sports bodies for the promotion of sports in the country.

Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) chairman hoped that athletes would show their best performance in the up-coming international events including 10th South Asian Games and Asian games this year.

“Our targets are South Asian Games which will be staged from August 15 to 26 in Colombo, Sri Lanka this year. PST will provide full assistants to the in-dividually to players and sports federations, “he concluded.●
