Heat wave claims 15 lives, dozens faint in

LAHORE: Intense summer heat
continued throughout the Punjab that claimed 13 more lives and caused dozens
to faint on Tuesday.
Sizzling heat killed five, made dozens faint in Chiniot. Among the dead were
a woman of Ajhwali Mohallah, two youths and a man in Sugharwala and a 14
year old in Chak 49.
In Shakargarh four old women died of heat while several students fainted.
In Chishtian where the
mercury rose to 48, four people including two women died due to heat stroke
while six were reported to have fainted.
In Pir Mahal too, a three-year-old minor succumbed to the intense heat and
passed away.
People are protested the unannounced loadshedding and demanded immediate
summer vacations in schools. Ice and cold drinks prices hiked owing to the
growing demand, the reports say.
Agencies add: At least 10 people were killed and dozens fainted due to
sunstroke in the interior Sindh, including Sukkur, while several people,
particularly women and children, are also facing stomach-related diseases.
The province is in the grip of severe heatwave, forcing most of the people
to stay indoors and severely affecting business activities.
S M Aslam from Nawabshah adds: In all 28 cases of gastroenteritis have been
brought at Peoples Medical College Hospital, Nawabshah in just four days
(from May 23 to May 26).
Dr Ijaz Pirzada said that all the patients admitted to the hospital were in
stable condition, adding some of them had been discharged from the
hospital.●
