Pakistan to offer expertise in banking sector to Libya

TRIPOLI (Libya): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Thursday said Pakistan was willing to offer its expertise to Libya in international banking sector to help the country improve this vital sector.

Talking to Farhad Iqdarah, Governor Central Bank of Libya, Prime Minister Aziz said Pakistan was among the top ten countries which have successfully brought about a significant change in their banking and financial systems.

He said almost 80 per cent of the banks in Pakistan were owned by the private sector and most were of foreign origin.

The Prime Minister, who was in Tripoli on a two-day visit, said Pakistan had no hesitation in offering its services and would be happy to assist its Libyan brothers to help improve the banking sector.

He invited the Governor Central Bank of Libya to visit Pakistan to further discuss with Pakistani counterpart ways to implementing the reforms.●
