Pakistan, Singapore discuss bilateral Trade

SINGAPORE: Federal Minister for Commerce, Humayun Akhtar Khan who is currently in Singapore on a two-day Conference of Regional Envoys called on Goh Chok Tong, Senior Minister and former Prime Minister of Singapore and the host country’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Lim Hng Kiang and discussed bilateral issues regarding trade and commerce.

In an interview, the Minister said that the profile of Far Eastern region has changed over the years and it has become significant in terms of trade and commerce.

He said the Conference of Regional Envoys is being held in view of this importance of the region.

The participants will be focusing on trade diplomacy and investments, he explained.

He said that Pakistan wants to become a full dialogue partner with ASEAN, and that it is negotiating bilateral trade agreements with the countries of the region.

He also explained that outside ASEAN, Pakistan has signed Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and Early Harvest Programme (EHP) with China.

The Minister also hosted a dinner which was widely attended by local businessmen and representatives of Singapore Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry, says a press release issued by the Ministry of Commerce.●
