MIRAN SHAH: At least three
persons were killed and two others injured when armed men opened fire on
them in Miran Shah on Monday, officials said. Two other officials and a
passer-by were injured.
The firing started when the armed men refused to surrender their automatic
Klashnikov gun to the security men, who were patrolling in Miran Shah, the
centre of North Waziristan tribal agency.
The group of four gunmen fled after the incident and the security men have
launched operation to nab the culprits.
Those killed included, Tehsil Dar Iftikhar Ahmed Khattak and morahar Amroz
Khan. One khasadar later died in hospital.
Meanwhile senior military and local officials in North Waziristan issued
shoot-at-sight order of those who carry weapons in the area.
Announcements were made through mosques loudspeakers, asking the people not
to carry weapons. Correspondents said that the authorities had imposed ban
on carrying arms in the main Miran Shah bazaar.
The authorities have issued notices to a local “Barakhel” tribe, asking the
tribe to hand over the attackers. Security of Miran Shah was handed over to
paramilitary Tochi Scouts after the incident and the authorities have
imposed night curfew in the area.
Meanwhile reports from the neighbouring South Waziristan say that
unidentified persons carried out two bomb blasts in a school and a clinic
late Mondaynight. But there was no casualty. However, the blasts caused
partial damage to the buildings.●
