LAHORE: The affection of
Muslims and Christians for Sikhs is astonishing for me as they are running
my campaign instead of their candidates.
This was said by Sardar Attar Singh, a cloth merchant by profession who is
contesting councillor election on minority seat from UC 27, inside Delhi
Gate said on Sunday.
After independence, he is the first Sikh contesting election from the
provincial metropolis on minority seat. He said that all parties had been
trying hard for him instead of their candidates as he was like their
brother.
He said although, Sikhs in Lahore had only eight votes, all in Delhi Gate
and his close family members, but he was hopeful of getting record number of
votes.
About his aims and objectives, he said when he went to any mohalla or area
for campaign, the locals opened his election offices on their own and asked
him there was no need to come here as he would be given all the votes of
minorities present in that area.
About his constituency, he said union council had over 45,000 votes and
areas included Delhi Gate, Yakki Gate, Mochi Gate, Sheranwala Gate, Akbari
Mandi, Chowk Nawab Sahib and Chuna Mandi.
He said he had no plan to contest the election, but locals of Delhi Gate
forced him to do so. Attar, brother of Sardar Bishan Singh, Vice President
of Pakistan Sikh Gurdawara Prabhandhak Committee said if he was given a
chance, he would serve the people day and night.●
