Pakistan to participate in World
Cyber Games

KARACHI: An eight member
team from Pakistan will for the first time take part in the World Cyber
Games (WCG).
As many as 72 countries would be participating in the event to be held in
Singapore in November this year.
The announcement to this effect was made at a press conference here on
Wednesday.
It was addressed by Chief Executive Officer of Playdium, Ahmed Mamoor Amimi
and General Manager of Samsung Electronics, Sang-Suk Roh whose organisation
would be sponsoring the participation of the Pakistani team to the WCG.
Mamoor pointed out that for selection of the Pakistan team, the preliminary
rounds would be conducted in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad later this month
and the national finals would be conducted in September.
The best eight will represent Pakistan at the WCG being held in Singapore in
November this year.
Citing an international survey, Mamoor said that 30 percent of the
youngsters are playing computer games rather than watching the television.
There are about 350 million fans of e-sports the world over and in the next
two years this figure is expected to increase to 870 million. The current
market monetary size is 380 million dollars globally and in the next three
years this figure is expected to reach 23 billion dollars.
E-sports
E-sports is defined as group of people connected with computers on the same
network or different, same country or other playing a certain game together
either for fun or competition basis.
The WCG is a Cyber Games Festival which is designed to build a healthy cyber
culture internationally.
Sang-Suk Roh said Samsung Pakistan has joined hands with the WCG to help
facilitate the participation of Pakistani youths in this world event.
Marketing Manager of Samsung Pakistan, Shahid Khan, said our youngsters are
quite talented and there is possibility that they can attain distinction in
the WCG.●
