Pakistan contingent leaves for World
University Games

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan
contingent, comprising male and female players of four disciplines, left
here for Karachi on Monday, en route to Izmir to take part in the World
University Games starting in the Turkish city from August-11.
Pakistan will be represented in the disciplines of athletics, swimming,
tennis and wrestling at the Games which conclude on August-21.
The competitions are being held under the banner of International University
Sports Federation (FISU) to which is also affiliated the Higher Education
Commission/Universities Sports Board of Pakistan.
The World University Games are second only to Olympics in its status and
importance, as far as multi-sports events are concerned.
These are held after every two years at the different venues of the world.
The following is the Pakistan contingent:
Athletics: Bahre Karam (Manager/Coach) University of Peshawar, Mrs. Abida
Shaheen (Manager/Coach) University of Karachi, Miss Beenish Amin (Athlete)
Punjab University, Asad Iqbal (Athlete) Peshawar University, Muhammad Ali
(Athlete) Peshawar University, Talha Iftikhar (Athlete) G C U Lahore.
Swimming: Muhammad Shafiq (Manager) Agriculture University Faisalabad, Faran
Ahmed Irfan (Coach) LUMS Lahore, M. Atif Shafiq Agri. University Faisalabad,
Agha Shahmir NED Engineering University Karachi , Awais Akram University of
Vet and Animal Sciences Lahore, Abdul Raheem Waqar Punjab University,
Lahore.
Tennis: Muhammad Akram Semab (Manager/ Coach) Vet. And Animal Sciences
Lahore, Ms Samina Razzaq (Manager/Coach) University of Punjab Lahore, Nadeem
Manzoor Punjab University Lahore, Ms Nabiha Haq Punjab University Lahore,
Nouman Yahya Bahria University Islamabad, Saad Baloch Mehran Engineering

Wrestling: Anwar Hussain Khanzada (Manager) Sindh Agriculture University

Talat Khursheed Director General Planning, HEC will be the Chef de Mission
while Mr. Muhammad Akmal Hussain Director Sports UET Taxila will accompany
the contingent as its Secretary.
The contingent has been selected after thorough “filtering”, it was
officially stated. The players remained under practice for one month prior
to their departure.●
