Chenab floodwaters enter Multan, Muzaffargarh areas

MULTAN: Chenab river floodwaters have entePakistani soldiers rescue flood affected people in Chaprar, a vicinity close to the Pakistan's Industrial city of Sialkot on Monday, July-11, 2005.red Multan and Muzaffargarh areas. The river flood surge has hit several villages of Kabirwala, Multan and Muzaffargarh also damaging the standing crops.

Authorities have established relief camps for flood victims in Multan, while people living within limits of the protective Bunds [embankment] are being evacuated to safer places.

People are transporting their household things by boats to the safer places. Yet still a large number of the people are marooned in the flood-hit riveran areas. They have said that they could not evacuate from the area due to lack of boats and other means.

14 dead, 11 Wounded


As reported by Pakistan's first independent daily E-newspaper 'Pakistan Times' in its earlier edition today, Monday, at least 14 people killed and 11 others seriously wounded when a relief boat carrying flood affectees to safe points, hit electricity poles in Rojahan Mazari on Monday morning.

The victims included four children and six women, Police said by adding; the injured have been shifted to relief camps for treatment and condition of four women was told critical.
