Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief
undergoes heart bypass

Qazi Hussain Ahmad underwent heart bypass surgery at a local hospital on
Wednesday afternoon.
This is the second heart bypass Qazi has undergone, as the first one was
done in London in 1992. Qazi also had minor surgery two years ago. Surgeon
Dr Fayyaz Hashmi who performed the six-hour operation stated that Qazi's
condition was satisfactory and he was improving.
However, he is in an intensive care unit.
Qazi's condition deteriorated during the past few months and he suffered an
attack of Angina last Saturday.
Qazi, who chaired the MMA Supreme Council meeting till 11:30am, left for the
hospital where the operation was started at 12 noon.
Acting Ameer
Chaudhry Rehmat Ilahi has been appointed acting Ameer of the JI till Qazi
comes around. He formally took an oath of the charge at Mansoorah on
Wednesday.●
