Pakistan electricity plan for Afghan border areas

PESHAWAR: The government of Pakistan has Khost, Afghanistandecided to provide electricity to the Khost city and border areas of Afghanistan from 220 KV Domail Grid Station Bannu besides establishment of local distribution network.

A spokesman of Tribal Electric Supply Company (TESCO) in Peshawar disclosed Saturday that a WAPDA team of senior Engineers comprising Zia Ullah Khan, Chaudhry Muhammad Akhter, Nek Muhammad and Abdul Razzaq Cheema conducted preliminary survey of Khost city and its surroundings and found the project feasible.

WAPDA team also held talks with the Governor Khost Province Miraj ud Din Pathan and authorities of Electricity Department of Khost. They discussed the existing power facilities in Khost and future requirements of the area.

The project included construction of 132 KV grid station at Khost and laying of 100 KM Transmission line to the grid station from 220 KV Domail grid station Bannu as well as establishment of distribution network in the area. It would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs.822.55 Million in a period of two years.

The project will also have an extension capacity of six 20 KV feeders to provide electricity facility to more than one Lac population in Khost city and surrounding areas located in the North of Pakistan near border with North Waziristan Agency.

Four neighboring countries Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Iran are already providing power supply to Afghanistan and Pakistan is the fifth country, which will provide electricity facility to Afghanistan.●
