The leader comes to rescue!
- Tehmina Sardar, Shadiwal Power House, Gujrat

THAT’s called the spirit and a true leadership. People of this political gamble-ridden country do not care about who wears uniform or shalwar qameez, whom LFO benefits to or who holds million marches for power greed. The real issue of the masses is who comes to their rescue at right time.

I was watching Geo TV and its correspondent in Murree aired the interview of a girl from Galiyat asking President Musharraf to personally visit the area and do something for her and her family stuck in the heavy snowfall. Snowfall on Murree hills has always attracted visitors but it also takes miseries along for the people in suburbs and villages.

This time it was a disaster-like situation. Scores of houses caved in due to heavy snowfall, roads got blocked and supply of food and fuel stopped. A number of deaths occurred due to breathing problems and shortage of medicines. Entire life and business came to a standstill.

The very next day Geo TV reported that on President’s orders, the military force in Murree Garrisons rushed to Galiyat and other areas to clear ways and rooftops and rescue the people trapped there. And they did it within a very short time.

Likewise we saw the President rushing to Balochistan the same day when a Tsunami like situation emerged after a dam burst in Pasni where thousands of people got affected but thanks to the army and navy jawans who rescued more than 1,500 people from drowning and provided needfuls to the shelterless.

The President visited the area and personally supervised the rescue operations. Past leaders tried to take political mileage of such disaster like situations but truth from Musharraf’s heart comes out not as a politician but as a genuine leader who cares for the people.

Leaders have to be saviours, not saleables. President Musharraf, stay safe, the nation needs you! Besides, I must appreciate media’s role, especially the electronic media. Had it not updated with the latest in Murree or Pasni, the rescue operations might have delayed further. It is on media too to highlight government’s steps taken in this direction. Thank you.●
