Mobile Users to retain numbers after change of Operators
Pakistan Times National News Desk

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) would introduce Mobile Number Portability (MNP) to enable subscribers
to retain their mobile phone numbers when they change mobile operators.

This service will strengthen competitions by lowering the barriers for customers who wish to change operators, PTA announced here on Friday.

The introductions of this facility will foster effective competition and establish competitive telecom regime with multiple players offering innovative, high quality and cost effective services to the consumers.

In order to implement this policy, PTA is planning to prepare a consultation paper to suggest the best technical solutions for its implementation.

Draft Policy

A draft policy will be formulated and issued after detailed study and seeking comments from stake holders especially on technical, administrative and financial solutions, by the end of January 2005.

The cellular mobile operators will implement the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) from 1st week of May 2005.

Specialists on the subject may convey their views and suggest appropriate solutions on Fax No. 051-2878129 or e-mail: talibdoger@pta.gov.pk and e-mil dgtech@pta.gov.pk
