Mobile Users to retain numbers
after change of Operators

Telecommunication Authority (PTA) would introduce Mobile Number Portability
(MNP) to enable subscribers
to retain their mobile phone numbers when they change mobile operators.
This service will strengthen competitions by lowering the barriers for
customers who wish to change operators, PTA announced here on Friday.
The introductions of this facility will foster effective competition and
establish competitive telecom regime with multiple players offering
innovative, high quality and cost effective services to the consumers.
In order to implement this policy, PTA is planning to prepare a consultation
paper to suggest the best technical solutions for its implementation.
Draft Policy
A draft policy will be formulated and issued after detailed study and
seeking comments from stake holders especially on technical, administrative
and financial solutions, by the end of January 2005.
The cellular mobile operators will implement the Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
from 1st week of May 2005.
