SRINAGAR (Indian
held-Kashmir): Scores of Kashmiris illegally arrested under the draconian
Public Safety Act (PSA) have been re-arrested several times after the expiry
of their jail terms and many amongst them are languishing in prisons for the
last more than ten years.
A number of detainees had served their jail terms months ago but they have
not been released despite court orders for their acquittal. Koka Paswal of
Shopian, Raja Asghar of Uri and Mohammad Yasin of Kupwara have been behind
the bars for the last one decade. They were re-arrested under Public Safety
Act as soon as the court ordered their release.
The relatives of these un-fortunate persons say that the detenues were not
being produced before the courts on due dates nor are they provided with
necessary medical care. Consequently their health has deteriorated to
dangerous level and they have already contacted serious kind of ailments
owing to lack of proper food and medicare.
It is pertinent to mention that puppet interior minister of occupied Kashmir
Abdul Rehman Viery had recently announced on the floor of he so-called
Assembly that no person arrested under Safety Act will be detained for more
than two years.●
