Kashmir's Century Old apex School Burned Down

SRINAGAR (Indian Held Kashmir): Kashmir's oldest school in Srinagar, the Islamia School, burned down today in a mysterious fire, which sparked emotional street, protests.

The fire appeared at 3am in the night and engulfed the whole building reducing it to ashes. The school, situated at Rajouri Kadal has educated the region's most prominent and influential people for generations.

News of the arson sent shockwaves through the city, and people went out into the streets and shut down shops in an emotional outpouring.

"The school was Kashmir's first step towards modern education," said a tearful Ashraf Andrabi, an engineer and a former student. "It has been the alma mater of everybody who has been anybody in Kashmir," he added.●
