GT Road opened for Traffic
Pakistan Times
Staff Report

TAXILA: The renovations of about 15 kilometers long patch of G.T road Islamabad-Hasanabdal section that has been under construction since last three years is now complete and open for vehicles.

The conditions of traffic on the diversion were inexplicably awful and extremely hazardous. The diversion that was in use for two way traffic was continuously being damaged due to over load of vehicles.

It was a common observation that cars plying bumper to bumper hit each other and if a tire gets burst it was a great problem not only for the driver of that car but also for all other cars moving in same lane. Traffic jam was a daily practice especially observed during rush hours.

Matter of Relief

It is of course a matter of relief for those commuters who daily travel to the twin cities for their various jobs and education, along this part of G.T road.

While it is worth mentioning after the completion of this reasonably long patch now another part of road almost three kilometers long a few miles next to Taxila is closed for repair. The situation is ridiculous as the construction of Lahore-Islamabad motor way was completed in one year. Whereas the repair works of this part of G.T road (Wah-Islamabad section) not more than 40 kilometers not yet complete even after passing a considerably long period of more than three years.

People despite of paying an exorbitant toll tax are facing this inconvenience and the renovation work do not seems to complete in near future.

VIPs Travel

Despite daily VIPs travel along this road and President General Pervez Musharaf also journeyed along this road while his visit to Cadet College Hasanabdal the construction of the road do not seems to complete in near future. The progress work is welcome but while planning such projects time duration must be considered important and construction work must not be over prolonged.

The board captioned “sorry for inconvenience” erected for such a long duration brings bad name to the companies managing the construction project. Therefore responsible authorities must take serious notice to save people from such a long trouble of three continuous years.●
