'Protest Day' observed in Indian Occupied Kashmir

SRINAGAR (Indian Held Kashmir): In occupied Kashmir, Protest Day, marked by large-scale demonstrations, was observed Friday against stepped up Indian state terrorism. Call for the observance of the Day was given by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

The objective was to attract world attention towards alarming increase in human rights abuses by Indian troops, including killing of Imams, religious scholars and desecration of sacred places.

People took to the streets in a big way in all major cities and towns of the occupied territory after Juma congregations. The biggest protest procession was taken out in Srinagar, which was led by APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani. It was participated by thousands of people including Hurriyat leaders Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Hubbi, Mian Manzoor Ahmad, Muhammad Saleem Zargar, Muhammad Shafi Reshi, Ms Yasmeen Raja, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Muhammad Yousaf Mir and Syed Muzaffar Rizvi. The procession started from Abi Guzar and terminated at Pratap Park, where it turned into a big public meeting.

Addressing the meeting, the APHC chairman emphasized that Kashmiris will not rest at ease until they secure their birth right of self-determination. He said, Kashmiris' genocide was being carried out by India in a planed way. His address was punctuated by forceful anti-India and pro-liberation slogans. APHC chairman urged India to prove its sincerity in resolving Kashmir dispute by accepting Kashmir as a disputed territory, releasing political detainees, revoking draconian laws and withdrawing troops to barracks.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, Shaikh Abdul Aziz addressed demonstrators at Bogund in Kulgam and Hurriyat leader, Agha Syed Hassan Mosavi in Budgam. They appealed world community to come forward effectively to the rescue of Kashmiri people from Indian State terrorism.
