RIYADH (Saudi Arabia):
Saudi security forces combed several neighborhoods of Riyadh
early Thursday, in an apparent search for clues to the
location of a US hostage whom Al -Qaeda extremists have
threatened to execute, witnesses said.
Several houses were searched in the district of Al-Suwaidi,
Darat Al-Badia and Al-Badr in southwest Riyadh and Al-Murooj
and Al-Maseef to the north, on Wednesday night.
The raids came a day after an Al-Qaeda affiliate posted a
video of US aeronautics engineer Paul Johnson on an Islamist
website and threatened to execute him unless all detained
militants of the group were freed from Saudi jails within 72
hours.
The US embassy here also said Wednesday that while Washington
would use "every appropriate resource" to secure the captive's
safety, it "makes no concessions" to hostage-takers.
The 49-year-old Johnson was shown blindfolded with a piece of
white fabric and tape. He was wearing a red shirt torn in
parts so a tattoo on his left shoulder became visible.
