ISLAMABAD: Inspector
General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Fiaz Ahmad Khan Toru said
that security in the capital has been tightened because of a
"serious security threat".
Talking to 'Pakistan Times' Thursday about the enhanced
security in capital for the last two days, he said " we
received some threats and it was important to take extra
security measures for the protection of sensitive places
especially around Constitution Avenue".
Concrete Barriers
"Concrete barriers have been set up and the sand bags are
placed in different locations to counter these threats. We are
more alert and more vigilant," the IGP added.
Security has been stepped up in the Capital after law and
order situation in Karachi and police commandos are deployed
at all sensitive places especially around Constitution Avenue
and multinational offices.
Patrolling Set Off
DSPs and SHOs of all police stations have been instructed for
patrolling in their respective jurisdictions. Police have also
been alerted at the entry and exit points of the capital and
directed tokeep an eye on the suspected elements, he added.
Red Alert
Red alert has been declared around Diplomatic Protection
Department (DPD) and security personnel have been doubled at
all the pickets around DPD, a police source said.
Security personnel are patrolling in the adjacent forest and
mountains while Anti Terrorist Squad of security division has
been patrolling to ensure complete safety in and around DPD.
