KARACHI: Indus
Telecom has announced that it will be deploying a nation-wide
Optic Fibre Network in Pakistan, at a cost of USD 45 million,
as part of the telecommunication deregulation process that has
been initiated by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
According to Indus Telecom, the network will run over 4,500
km, spanning the length and breadth of the country, through
all four provinces, providing an alternate source to telecom
operators for their long-haul transmission needs, which will
ultimately result in cheaper long-distance telephony services
for consumers.
The company also stated that substantial work has already been
accomplished towards the goal of completing Phase I of the
Network by the end of the year, and that it has attracted
substantial foreign investment into this project, which will
create many job opportunities for Pakistanis.
Indus Telecom is a privately held corporation and is a member
of the Nuricon Group of Companies, Pakistan’s leading oilfield
services company. Through it’s sister concern, Indus Telecom
already has telecom operations in Canada and Nigeria.
