More Arrested for Madrid Attack
Pakistan Times/TWTNews Foreign Desk Report

MADRID (Spain): Spanish police have arrested four more suspects in connection with the Madrid bombings.

Three suspects, all Arabs, were arrested in the Madrid district of Lavapies, a multi-ethnic neighbourhood where lead suspect Jamal Zougam ran a mobile phone shop.

The fourth was picked up in Getafe, a suburb of Spain's capital, officials said.

The arrests happened Sunday night and early Monday.

Overall

The arrests bring to 14 the number of people held in custody over the March 11 railway bombings, which killed 202 people and left more than 1,800 wounded.

The bombings have been blamed on al Qaeda rather than the Basque separatist group Eta.

The Spanish public responded by voting out conservative prime minister in place of Jose Maria Aznar's.

Zapatero has vowed to withdraw Spanish troops from Iraq once the running of the country is handed over from the US-led coalition to the Iraqi Governing Council on June 30.
