NEW DELHI
(India): In another stride towards normalization in Indo-Pak
ties, Indian government Saturday allowed roaming facility on
mobile phones for Pakistan, initially for a period of four
months.
"This is part of
the process Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee initiated for
restoring normalcy between the two nations. We have allowed
the facility for a period of four months. We will review the
situation on June 15", Communication and IT Minister Arun
Shourie told the newsmen here, who raised the issue with
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani in the view of Indo-Pak
cricket series.
"Prime Minister
today asked to start this - This is a step towards confidence
building measures and it comes at a time when people are not
just interested in watching Indo-Pak cricket series, but also
sharing their excitements", the Minister added.
The government has
allowed roaming facility on experimental basis, an Indian TV
channel said adding, the government, however has not extended
this facility to Indian Held Kashmir and Northern Eastern
regions.
