LAHORE: Anti Narcotics
Force (ANF) claimed to have seized a record haul of 41 kg fine
quality heroin, worth Rs 520 million in the international
market, from a Nigerian carrier said to be a part of a foreign
gang.
"This is the biggest haul we've made in Punjab," the Force
Commander Brig Ashfaqur Rahman Khan told a news conference
Friday.
Cell phone Adaptors
The contraband was cleverly concealed inside the cell phone
adaptors recovered from the baggage of accused Muhammad Yemi,
who was on his fifth trip to Pakistan, and was bound for Kano
in northern Nigeria via Dubai.
The ANF acting caught the Nigerian just before he was to
depart for Dubai on PIA flight PK-209 from the Allama Iqbal
International Airport.
Other Items
The Nigerian was also carrying electronic goods like
computers' mouse, cell phone jackets and covers, and a large
quantity of digital telephones.
ANF personnel searched the
luggage of all passengers leaving for Dubai and on suspicion
carried out a detailed scrutiny of the suspect's baggage, from
whom the heroin was ultimately recovered.
International Gang
The Nigerian, during interrogation admitted that he was member
of an international gang which was smuggling drugs to
different countries around the world.
The confiscated heroin was brought from Afghanistan amid
Central Asia, of-late another favourite route of drug
smugglers.
