MUZAFFARABAD (Azad
Kashmir): The atypical session of the Azad Jammu Kashmir
Legislative Assembly was prorogued Saturday just after a brief
sitting, lasting almost a few minutes.
Despite having been equipped with a planned hefty agenda, the
Speaker adjourned the proceedings indefinitely just after the
recitation from the Holy Quran, a sanctified feature of every
meeting before the House takes up a formal course.
Lawmakers and political pundits assess this unusual
pronouncement by the Speaker as an indicator and upshot of the
persistent conflict which is engulfing the political horizons
of Azad Kashmir for the last several weeks.
Backdrop
As reported earlier, the Sikander-led government in the State
faced a severe jerk and jolt, the moment four ministers
resigned from their positions with an obvious icon of
differences on the PM's policies on multiple issues with his
failure in getting the tempo of development accelerated as
well as lack of emphatic projection of the Kashmir cause at
home and abroad with ground realities as its podium.
'Such a setting seems to be the main cause for perils to
Sikander-led set-up', the sources say by adding; 'the
incumbent Premier, Sikander Hayat could not pursue or
disseminate, in an emphatic way, the much-adored and pragmatic
vision of President Pervez Musharraf vis-à-vis the Kashmir
Issue, despite the reality that Musharraf's fabulous
perceptions have been loved, liked and accepted by Kashmiris
on both sides of the LoC as well as by all those dwelling
overseas and that too with one-voice.'
Political Skirmish
At the same time the AJK PM developed a political skirmish
with the party heads, including the Supreme Head of the ruling
AJK Muslim Conference, Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan,
'which has created a problematic scenario for him [Sikander]',
they viewed while recalling the episodes of the past.
The best course left to save the party from any polarization,
politicians say, is that complete amity and harmony is
depicted by every-one in the best interest of the people of
Azad Kashmir and most exclusively for the Kashmir cause by
shedding all types of differences in a democratic style,
at-once', they remarked by adding; 'arrogance by any-one shall
serve no purpose but would instead give a set-back to our
noble and justified cause for the solution of the Kashmir
issue, in line with the aspirations of the people of the
Himalayan State, in whatever manner they deem apt.'
The Absentees
Back to the Saturday's Assembly session, the resigned
ministers Shah Ghulam Qadir, Tariq Farooq and Masood Khalid
did not attend the session but two parliamentary secretaries,
who had also tendered resignations, were present in the House.
Though supreme head of Muslim Conference Sardar Abdul Qayyum
Khan and its President Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan also did not
attend the session.
News Agency INP adds: In the meanwhile sources told INP that
session was prorogued amid a suggestion from stalwarts as
government in Pakistan wanted to see the end of internal
crisis in the Muslim Conference through negotiations but
outside the Assembly.
They maintained that a consensus was reached to resolve the
crisis through reconciliation and there were chances that the
problem would be over in next few days.
