LONDON (UK): Pakistan's
ex-Prime Minister and Chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party,
Ms Benazir Bhutto has condemned the police firing and baton
charge of PPP procession in Rawlakot in Azad Kashmir on Friday
and demanded a judicial probe into the incident and punishment
to those in the administration responsible for the incident.
A protest camp was set up by the Barrister Sultan Mahmood-led
faction of the AJK chapter of the Pakistan Peoples Party in
Rawlakot followig the foot steps of the ARD with a slogan of
"Musharraf Hatao, Mulk Bachao" ['Remove Musharraf, Save
Country'] in diverse vicinities of Azad Kashmir.
As the Sultan's associates in the fold marched towards the
district courts in Rawlakot, the police baton charged them and
resorted to firing, a PPP report said. As a result Sardar
Muhammad Hussain, Senior Vice President PPP, Chaudhry Lateef
Akbar, Secretary General PPP and Sardar Sawar Khan, Member
Kashmir Council, among others were injured.
Via a statement beamed to 'Pakistan Times' Saturday, Ms
Benazir Bhutto said that 'the police action against peaceful
demonstrators was most reprehensible. The overreaction by the
administration showed that the regime had gone berserk over
the protest call.'
She said that 'the government had feet of clay and needed a
push to be ousted.' The ex-Premier said that 'the ARD and
democratic opposition would continue its protest
demonstrations to oust the undemocratic regime.' 'I salute the
valiant Party workers and urge them to continue their
struggle.'
After a meeting with Barrister Sultan, [who too is in London
now a days, as a part of his frequent voyage abroad], Ms
Benazir Bhutto, also demanded a judicial probe and punishment
to those 'who took such a course against peaceful
demonstrators.'
